Frequently Asked Questions

MyCO2 Suite is a carbon-intelligence API that turns any transaction, activity, flight, shipment or EU CBAM import into a verified CO₂e number in one call — for developers and AI agents alike. Below are the questions we hear most.

What is MyCO2 Suite?
MyCO2 Suite is a carbon-intelligence API that turns any transaction, activity, flight, shipment, or EU CBAM import into a verified CO₂e figure in a single call. It is built on 223,850 licensed, methodology-stamped emission factors covering 200+ countries, with full Scope 1, 2 and 3 coverage, and is callable by both developers (REST) and AI agents (x402, MCP, A2A, ACP).
Can an AI agent use and pay for the API without signing up?
Yes. MyCO2 supports x402 pay-per-call: an agent calls any endpoint with no API key, receives an HTTP 402 response with machine-readable payment details, pays a few cents in USDC on the Base network, and retries — with no account and no human in the loop. The API is also exposed over MCP, A2A and ACP for agent discovery.
What is the cheapest carbon API for AI agents?
MyCO2 Suite is priced per call from $0.003 for a standard calculation and $0.008 for a CBAM calculation, paid in USDC via x402 with no subscription, dropping toward $0.001 at volume. The first 1,000 calls each month are free with an API key.
How do I calculate the carbon footprint of a transaction with an API?
Send a POST request to /v1/transaction with a spend amount, currency, country, and an industry code (MCC, NAICS, BEA, ISIC, SIC or NACE). MyCO2 returns the CO₂e in grams, kilograms and tonnes, along with the exact emission factor, methodology, source and licence used.
How do I calculate EU CBAM import liability with an API?
Send a POST request to /v1/cbam with an 8-digit CN code, country of origin, and weight in tonnes. MyCO2 returns embedded emissions, the free-allocation benchmark, the CBAM certificates required, and estimated EUR liability — using the year's phase-in rate and the live EU ETS price, under EU default values or your own verified MRV data.
What emission factors and standards does MyCO2 use?
MyCO2 uses 223,850 emission factors sourced from government and inter-governmental bodies including DEFRA, the US EPA, the IPCC, Ember and ADEME. Every factor is licence-tagged and labelled with its methodology, source, data year, gas basis (CO₂ vs CO₂e) and GWP version (AR4, AR5 or AR6).
Does MyCO2 Suite have an MCP server?
Yes. The MCP server is available at https://api.myco2suite.io/v1/mcp over Streamable HTTP and is published in the official MCP registry as io.myco2suite/carbon-intelligence. Agents can discover every tool with no API key; running a tool requires a free API key or x402 pay-per-call.
What can MyCO2 Suite calculate?
MyCO2 calculates spend-based emissions from transactions, activity-based emissions (fuel, electricity, materials), flight emissions, freight emissions across road, rail, sea and air, and EU CBAM import liability — individually or in batches. It also looks up the underlying emission factors. Coverage spans Scope 1, 2 and 3 across 200+ countries.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The Sandbox tier includes 1,000 API calls per month at no cost and requires no credit card, with access to all core endpoints. Agents paying through x402 are metered from the first call.
Are the results audit-ready?
Yes. Every response is methodology-stamped: it returns the exact factor value, unit, source, licence, data year, gas basis and GWP version used for the calculation, so results are fully traceable and audit-ready rather than a black-box estimate.
